This photo was always my favorite of my mom and her family when they were all younger, mostly because it has my uncle Richard in it on the right, who died way before I was born. It hung on the wall of my great aunt and uncle’s house, and every time we went there I’d stare at it for the longest time. It just baffled me as a child that my mother was ever that young.

Okay, so this indie bitch whom I work with walks into work today wearing whatever the hell this thing is. (Apparently it’s called a cocoon cowl scarf. I call it a fucking oversized knit face smotherer. But potato potahto.)

So anyway, usually I just over look the ridiculous shit this girl wears to work, because she’s about as big a hipster as they come so she can’t help herself. I didn’t make any snarky comments when she wore her off-the-shoulder wolf t-shirt that one day, or even her little floppy knit hat for an entire shift even though we’re not allowed to wear hats.

But this fucking thing was too much. I MEAN, LOOK AT THAT THING. If someone handed this to me and said, “I want you to try and sell this.” I would be like, “No way, no how, man. Nobody in they’re right mind is gonna be this piece of shit excuse for an accessory.”

But this girl proved me wrong. She actually went to a store and paid money for it.

The conversation that followed her showing this off to everyone in the store went as follows:

Me: That is the dumbest shit I’ve ever seen.

Girl: I know, right!? *laughs*

So even when I flat out insult the thing she is wearing, as a hipster, she either doesn’t understand that that thing is hideous and thinks I’m being ironic and funny, or she really does get that it’s hideous and she’s wearing it to be ironic and funny.

Any common sense she ever had has been just drowned in PBR and fucking enormous knit head cocoons.
